"WHAT IF I NEED REVISIONS? WILL YOU CHARGE ME?"

   No. Revisions are free. Just tell me what you want changed, and I'll do it--fast. Revisions are never a problem.

"IF YOU'RE SUCH A GREAT COPYWRITER, WHY AREN'T YOU IN THE BIG TIME, ON MADISON AVENUE?" 

   The big  time is overrated. I know, because for fourteen years, I was president and owner of a well-known New York agency. On Madison Avenue. The firm specialized in direct marketing, although quite a lot of the time I specialized in ulcers and migraine. The so-called big-time is mostly a big pain in the neck.

"YOU MAY KNOW COPYWRITING, BUT YOU DON'T KNOW MY BUSINESS. IT'S DIFFERENT."

   It's natural to feel that way. But imagine saying, "Doc, you may know medicine, but you don't know the cold I've got here. It's different." Of course it is. And so is your business. But people are pretty much the same. They want the same things. They fear the same things. This is what makes medicine, psychology, government--and advertising copy--possible!. My job is to translate the features of your product or service into benefits people want. You tell me those features. I'll do the rest.

"HOW MUCH DOES YOUR COPY COST?"

   If you want a letter to bring back orders--subscriptions--donations--money--you'll get a two-page letter guaranteed  to please you for $1,500.

   If you want a more complete, more ambitious effort, you'll get the kind of four-page letter you've been looking for: Not four pages of clever words. But convincing, why-they-should-buy copy. Copy that makes it a pleasure to send you a check. The fee is $3,000.

   If you want a one-page letter to bring back properly qualified sales leads, I'll make the reply cards fly like snow for $750!

   And if you want a one-page letter for any other purpose: to clean your list--distribute catalogs--inspire the sales force--motivate dealers--collection letters--cordial contact letters--whatever--you will get a letter you'll be proud and pleased to mail. Fee: $750.

"I ALSO NEED A BROCHURE. HOW MUCH?"

   In general, brochure copy is $1,000 a page. Of course, that's for "set solid" copy. And that includes a "copywriter's rough," as well. Plus review of your final layout, if you wish.

"AND HOW ABOUT ADS?"

   No problem. Whatever kind of copy you want, I'll be glad to handle it. And that includes Web site and e-mail copy, too.

   About that word, "guarantee." It's an important word in "mail order." For unless you and I and everyone else who sells by "mail"--is absolutely fair and square, we're out of business. It's repeat orders--and reputation that count. So "guaranteed" means just that.

"WHEN DO I PAY?"
